RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS AT THE CONTEGO WINES2WHALES 3-DAY MOUNTAIN BIKE STAGE RACE

Mountain bike enthusiasts currently on the waiting list for the awe-inspiring CONTEGO WINES2WHALES MTB RACE will be very pleased to hear that event organisers have added a new and exciting dimension to the race, which will give five single riders the chance to secure themselves a place on the start line in November.

Event organisers have announced the ‘RIDE WITH THE CHAMPIONS' PROGRAMME, a unique and exciting option for riders wanting to ride the CONTEGO WINES2WHALES MTB RACE .  The programme will give riders the opportunity to team up with celebrities including 2 world champions!  The four   highest bidders will get the opportunity to ‘RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS.' The illustrious group of celebrities includes Olympic medalist Christoph Sauser, Under-23 World MTB Champion Burry Stander, South African multi-sport champion and top ranked international XTERRA athlete Dan Hugo and Pasella presenter/2007 Mr South Africa Dieter Voigt.  This very exciting package will include luxury accommodation at the Erinvale Hotel & Spa, shuttle services, massages and riding gear as well as the cycling opportunity of a lifetime.  Proceeds of the auction will go towards three very worthy charities, namely the JAG Foundation (an organisation focusing on education and sport development at grassroots), Songo.info (a charity focusing on bringing sport to the Kayamandi township of Stellenbosch) and local community programmes en-route.

According to Schalk Louw, Chief Executive & Strategist Contego Asset Management, it is an honour to be involved with an event focused on raising funds for a worthy cause such as Songo.info.  “We are pleased to be able to enhance the existing relationship that we have with Songo.info.  Contego fully supports the charity initiative and believes that it will achieve great heights in future,” says Louw.

Event organizer Stillwater Sport & Entertainment CEO, Michael Meyer believes that the auction is sure to add additional excitement to the much anticipated event.  “The support that we've received to date for the CONTEGO WINES2WHALES MTB RACE has been overwhelming.  The event which will only take place in November (12 - 14) is already fully subscribed with an equally long waiting list.  We are not only pleased to be giving riders another opportunity to enter this much anticipated race, but also that we're able to raise funds for three charities that make a real difference in the lives of today's youth.  We'd like to urge riders to make a difference and bid,” says Meyer.

Bidding will be done via w2w@stillwatersports.com from 1 July to 20 July 2010. The four highest bidders will be contacted personally and their names will be published on the Wines2Whales website shortly thereafter.

The CONTEGO WINES2WHALES MTB RACE will see teams of two cyclists (men/female/mixed) traversing approximately 230 km of the Western Cape's most beautiful and un-spoilt terrain.  Riders can expect to see breath-taking scenery and spectacular mountain-biking terrain and relish the opportunity to test their endurance and skills.  Family and friends will also be able to support their favourite teams at various vantage points along the spectator friendly route.

Pasella presenter/2007 Mr South Africa Dieter Voigt is one of four stars that will be up for auction at the Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race.  Mountain bike enthusiasts currently on the waiting list for this awe-inspiring event can bid to partner up with either Voigt, Olympic medalist Christoph Sauser, Under-23 World MTB Champion Burry Stander or South African multi-sport champion and top ranked international XTERRA athlete Dan Hugo.

According to Voigt, he views the auction process as an opportunity to make a new friend and training partner.  “ I love meeting new people.  We only live once, so I want to learn as much as possible from the people I meet. I hope to have a new friend after this event.  I also hope that my partner is not too competitive, as I intend to spend a long time in the saddle.  A couple of my friends took part at the 2009 Wines2whales MTB Race and they had very positive feedback. I still have a lot of training to do, but my friends told me the vibe and the people will pull me through,” says Voigt.
